Spinning Song

from Calanais by Lissa-Käthe

about

I visited the Shetland Isles for my first ever, dark, wild winter Christmas. So isolated, they developed a culture all their own. It's part Scottish, part Scandinavian, part uniquely Shetland. It's where my own ancestry seemed to 'meet?' With more sheep than people, spinning wool is part of their history. Here is my own version of a traditional 'spinning song'.

lyrics

Hulla Muka Do Hoo Rova Hay
Hoo Rova Hinda Hee Rova Rinda
Hulla Muka Do Hoo Rova Hay
Oh Rick O Dack O Dandee

When will someone come to me
Will he come by land or sea
Will he my own lover be
Oh tell me truly well

Wheel of fate what ist you say?
This year O next year Or nev' a day
When will a woo'er come my way
Oh tell me truly well

Be he dark or be he fair
Shy or bold or debonair
Ribbons braw will deck my hair
To meet and greet my true love.
